Only You, Lord
by Stephen Sheridan Boland IV

Lord, only you can provide me with hope.
Lord, only you can give me the strength to cope.
Lord, no one else provides the Words of Life.
Lord, no one else can prevent eternal strife.
Lord, you alone, no one else can break sin's bond.
Lord, you alone in this life, and the one beyond.

I know you always have a master plan,
working everything out as only you can.
I know that when I need help, you'll find me
and Romans 8:28 will remind me,
I know you're working all things for my good
in ways that only a perfect being could.

Alone, I am terribly pathetic.
Alone, I am morbidly wretched and sick.
Alone, I can not remove sin's dark stain.
You alone Lord, you have endured the pain.
You alone Lord, your blood can make me clean.
You alone Lord, can give my soul a white sheen.

Such true, great, genuine, and perfect love
could only come down from Heaven above.
I know this is true from what I have heard
as I have read the Holy Bible, your Word.
I know that you love me. This I can gleen
from reading scriptures such as John 3:16.

By myself, I would so wretchedly fail.
My eternity would be a miserable tale.
By my own choice, off the straight path I swerve,
and hell is exactly what I so deserve.
By my own goodness, I could not win the race.
Praise be to you Lord, for your wonderful grace!

The book of Matthew leaves me with no doubt,
those who are yours, you will by no means cast out.
Though I sometimes sin in this flesh of mine,
I'll confess to you as per 1 John 1:9.
I'll ask forgiveness with faith that is true.
Faith which is itself a gift given by you!

Only you, Lord. Only you are in control.
Only you, Lord. Only you can save my soul.
