Relaxing on the Beach
by Stephen Sheridan Boland IV

As I relax right here upon
a simple beach of smooth white sand,
before long I find I have gone
to a peaceful and wonderful land.

The sound of gently crashing waves
has a power which quickly paves
a road leading so far away
from any and all troubles this day.

The rest of the world disappears
taking with it all of my fears.
There is no elsewhere, only here.
Nothing but the joy that I keep near.

There is no future, nor a past.
Just this moment while it does last.
I know it won't last very long,
but to not enjoy it would be wrong.

Soon many problems will return,
yet this knowledge I do not spurn.
I shall not let these thoughts drag down
the true joy I am feeling right now.

For the moment I am happy
and it's so very clear to me
all else doesn't matter at all
as into serenity I fall.
